What it does not fund: EFI’s general principle is that families do not exchange monies for hosting. Each family covers the visiting child’s ordinary day-to-day expenses as they would for their own child. Private schools may, however, charge additional tuition fees during the exchange. Some private schools waive these additional fees because the host family continues paying for its own child’s place while that child is studying abroad. This cannot, however, be guaranteed. Where extra fees arise, EFI works with both families to agree a fair arrangement.
