## Pricing
- Cost: EUR 2,900 for a six-month exchange. No VAT is payable.
- Fees are charged in euro; any sterling figure shown on the site is indicative and recalculated from the European Central Bank reference rate, so it varies daily.
- Shorter exchange durations are priced separately — contact EFI to discuss.
- The fee funds organisation and safeguarding: family interviews and home visits, preparation meetings in each country, supervision of exchanges with wellbeing reports, and assistance from the EFI team and local representatives.
- The fee does not cover lodging. As a general principle families do not exchange money for hosting; each family covers the visiting child's ordinary day-to-day expenses as they would for their own child.
- Private schools may charge additional tuition fees during an exchange. Some waive them because the host family continues to pay for its own child's place, but this cannot be guaranteed.

## Safeguarding
- Every family is interviewed, visited at home and attends a preparation meeting before a match is confirmed.
- Each exchange is monitored with regular language and wellbeing reports, and a 24/7 emergency contact in every country.
- UK placements: caring for a child under 16 for 28 consecutive days or more by someone who is not a parent, a person with parental responsibility or a relative as defined by the Children Act 1989 is private fostering under English law. Every six-month UK placement qualifies, as do most three-month placements.
- The host family and the child's parents must notify the host family's local authority, usually at least six weeks before the placement begins. EFI supports families through this process.
- Private fostering does not transfer parental responsibility, which the child's parents retain throughout.
- This is England-specific. Wales has its own regulations, and Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate private fostering laws.
